A landmark weekend for Bahrain Victorious in Pontevedra saw Cassandre Beaugrand and Vasco Vilaça crowned women’s and men’s World Triathlon champions, securing an extraordinary WTCS world championship double for the team.
Bahrain Victorious celebrated a remarkable double triumph on the world stage this weekend, with Cassandre Beaugrand and Vasco Vilaça crowned 2026 World Triathlon champions following the WTCS Grand Final in Pontevedra.
Both arrived in Spain at the top of the Series standings and delivered when it mattered most, with Beaugrand winning the Grand Final in commanding fashion and Vilaça taking silver to secure his first world title.
Beaugrand entered the Grand Final with a perfect record of four wins from four WTCS starts in 2026 and produced another dominant performance when the world title was on the line.
The French star exited the 1.5-kilometre swim in the lead group and remained at the front throughout the 40-kilometre bike leg, helping drive the pace alongside Bahrain Victorious teammate and training partner Georgia Taylor-Brown.
Once onto the 10-kilometre run, Beaugrand took control. She pulled clear of the field to win by more than a minute, sealing her second WTCS world title in emphatic fashion.
“I wanted to give myself the chance to do the best and win the title and win the race… I think it’s even better when you can win the race on the day,” Beaugrand said post-race.
The victory capped what Beaugrand considers her best season to date, even surpassing a remarkable 2024 campaign in which she claimed Olympic gold on home soil in Paris and her first world title.
“Everyone sees just the easy part, like winning, but it’s hard to win and even harder to stay at the top,” she added.
It was also an outstanding day for Taylor-Brown, who crossed the line in second to secure bronze in the overall Series standings. It marked her best overall WTCS result since finishing joint first with Flora Duffy in 2020 and her first return to the Series podium since 2022.
Vilaça completed an extraordinary championship double for Bahrain Victorious with silver in the men’s Grand Final, securing his first WTCS world title.
The Portuguese star arrived in Pontevedra following an outstanding season that included two Series victories – including his breakthrough win in Samarkand – and three runner-up finishes.
Having previously finished second at the one-day World Triathlon Championship in Hamburg in 2020, Vilaça finally converted years of consistency at the highest level into the overall world title.
He exited the swim just under 16 seconds behind the leader and quickly established himself in the front bike group, remaining well positioned throughout the 40-kilometre course.
Onto the run, Vilaça helped reel in an early breakaway and remained firmly in contention as the race came down to a thrilling final sprint. He was narrowly edged out for the race victory, but second place was enough to secure the biggest title of his career.
“I’m mostly happy to be able to handle the pressure. This is what the Olympics will be all about, what the big races are all about… I feel like I’ve had this weight on me for so long, just pretending it’s not there, and it’s so good to finally get it off my back,” Vilaça said.

Attention now turns to the IRONMAN World Championship in Hawaii on 10 October. With the return to a single-day format bringing the professional men’s and women’s races together in Kona for the first time since 2019, Taylor Knibb, Kat Matthews, Vincent Luis and Marten Van Riel will represent Bahrain Victorious on the start line as the team targets further success on the world stage.
