The two-time IRONMAN 70.3 world champion delivers a commanding performance in Australia, continuing his strong late-season form with a dominant win.
Jelle Geens topped the podium at IRONMAN 70.3 Port Macquarie this past weekend, following up his bronze-medal finish at the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Nice last month with a commanding victory.
The 2024 and 2025 IRONMAN 70.3 world champion showed the quality that has made him one of the distance’s leading athletes, pulling clear of the field to win by nearly three minutes. Geens laid the foundations with the second-fastest swim over 1.9 kilometres before moving to the front when a bike crash took out the race’s early leader. He went on to record the third-fastest bike split of the day, then delivered a 1:11 half-marathon to seal the win.
“It always starts to hurt at the end because it’s still an IRONMAN 70.3 that you have to do, but it was a good day out,” he said post-race. “I knew I had maybe a bit over a minute off the bike and if I had my normal run legs I should be able to hold that.”
The Belgian is hitting his stride towards the end of the season, with the strong performances in recent races putting him in good position to finish the year on a high.
