Javier Gomez will toe the starting line at Ironman 70.3 Barcelona this weekend. On the heels of his year’s wins at the Challenge Wanaka half and the Cannes International Triathlon, he has chosen to race what he considers his home event.

Gomez made his middle distance debut in Barcelona in 2013 when it was a Challenge Family event and won on the beaches and hilly roads of Calella. Five years later, he returns an experienced warrior at the distance with nine wins over 11 half-distance triathlons finished, including two Ironman 70.3 World titles.

Ironman 70.3 Barcelona is a key stepping stone to his Ironman distance debut in Cairns on June 10, where Gomez will ratify his spot for the Ironman World Championship starting line in Kona.
